Look of the weekend : Dressing the bump.

This large growth on my belly is only getting bigger by the day... and dressing each morning has definitely been a challenge, things don't quite fit like they used to and some things just don't fit at all! I have to say I used to judge all you pregnant women who went out in public with sweatpants and an oversized t shirt on. Well I was wrong for judging, because the effort to find something suitable to wear is pretty difficult and then when you do it most likely will be uncomfortable... ahhh the joys of pregnancy, right? Well I have found a few staples for my 'bump' wardrobe that I would love to share... and also some things that have been on a wishlist for my third trimester to get me through until the end. I have my first baby shower next weekend and I so wish I had a great dress to throw on... we'll see what I come up with :)

Staples for the momma to be wardrobe:
Cotton T's... lot's of them

On the wishlist :

Look of the weekend : For the little man.

Stone has been saying lately that he thinks that our little man will have a better wardrobe than he does... and I am thinking he is right. I love the little onesies, of course, but what I really love are the baby boy clothes that look like something Stone would buy for himself. They are going to be two of the most handsome men around, I just cannot wait to see them together... Here are some things on my wishlist!

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend, we are headed to Palm Springs to shoot a wedding and just cannot wait, it will be our first time there :)

Look of the weekend : The stylish man.

Happy Friday everyone! We made it through the week, however, the weekend is no relaxing time for us photographers. It is almost opposite! Tomorrow we are shooting a wedding here in San Diego and it should be a great, but ultra long day for us. I think it will be the longest day of shooting we have ever taken on, thank goodness I am in my second trimester because everyone says that is when you feel the best.

Okay, enough about the weekend, let's talk about this post... I just have had a few things collecting on my desktop that I had picked out for gifts for husband in the future and thought I would share. I absolutely LOVE Stone's sense of style, when we first started dating it was actually him who transformed me from the preppy sorority girl into something a little more trendy. I did, however, soften his 'Colorado ski bum' look that he was kind of rocking when we met. Either way, he's got style and I am thankful for it :) If you have a stylish man of your own, you may want to add a couple of these items to his gift list as well... that backpack would make a pretty manly diaper bag, right? Ha.

1, 2, 3, 4

Welcome to the weekend. xo.

Look of the week : Hawaii love.

Husband and I are headed to Kauai in a couple of weeks and I am counting down the days... for many reasons...

1. I have never been to Hawaii before and have heard incredible things, I just know it will live up to the hype!

2. While we have been traveling a lot lately (holidays and the arrival of my niece and nephew) we have not had a ton of alone time for the two of us so I cannot wait for that.

3. I am finally starting to feel better! So bring on the delicious island food...

4 . We are staying at an incredible boutique hotel, which was a splurge, but they had excellent bathrooms and that is our number one priority when booking a hotel!

5. I need some sun on my skin, badly.

6. I have never stood under a waterfall and that is top of my list to do while we are there, I know every tourist in Hawaii gets that classic pic, and well, I want one too!

7. My belly has not quite popped yet, but I imagine as soon as it does I will be way more uncomfortable, so I may as well soak up this time before everything goes out of whack.

8. The hotel has pre-natal massages!

9. I will most likely need to do some trip shopping before we leave :)

10. Did I mention the massage?

Some things topping my list for the trip are a couple of great LemLem scarves that can double as sarongs. I'm on the hunt for a new bikini, even though my belly looks like I have played too much beer pong, I will still bare it :) I also think a sweet piece of jewelry from this designer would be a great accent to wear, they all seem so beachy to me. A must for this trip are easy and comfortable sundresses like this one from Calypso. Lastly I will definitely be packing a couple of flat sandals that I can wear all day!

Any Kauai tips for us?

xo.

Look of the week : Snuggle in to fall.

Hooray for fall!

One thing I miss most about living in Colorado is having seasons. I love the leaves changing and the first snow. I just don't like that point when you realize the snow is just going to keep on dumping. Truly though, the first snow is pretty magical. When the entire town is white and no one was quite prepared so things are closed and everything is still. I love that.

But, alas, Stone and I have left the snow for a much warmer climate. I will say, however, there is kind of a briskness to the air here and it is making me dream of all things warm, cozy, and pumpkin scented. I know... such a girl :) What can I say? This is our favorite time of the year and it is obvious why...

I am loving the fall fashion this season, but I do have a bone to pick with the trend-makers. Cable knit sweaters? Really? Just two years ago I dropped off two bags full of cable knit sweaters to be donated and they are back in style now. That was a fast turn around, and one that I am frankly not prepared for. Isn't that always the case. I don't think I will hop on that bandwagon this season as I was pretty happy to purge those sweaters and am not ready to invite them back in. But, they are cute I must say...

So put on a sweater, and get cozy... it's fall!

Look of the week : 100 years of style.

Saw this here and had to share it! Love the clothes, love the music, and love the dancing :)

I miss dancing...

Look of the week : 1960s.

Mmmmm... The MET museum's vintage Dior dress collection. So beautiful!

Stone and I have been into all of these new 1960s era tv shows like Mad Men, Pan Am, and Playboy Club. The clothing of that time period makes me feel like a total schlub (yup, I don't know if that is a word, or if it is I don't think I spelled it correctly). I need to step it up!

Go here to see more of these gorgeous gowns.

Look of the week : Summer in the wine country.

Stone and I are headed out at the end of this week to shoot a wedding in San Francisco and then have some down time with friends and wine in Sonoma Valley. Not bad, right? We are so excited! We went to Sonoma a little over a year ago and fell in love with the town and of course the wineries. Last time we went it was May so it was a bit early for grapes to actually be on the vine, but this time around it should be close to picking season! Hopefully we can spend at least a day perusing vineyards, I have already checked out the forecast and it looks beautiful! So, I decided the look of the week would be for grape picking and wine tasting :)

Hope you enjoy.

Style Icons : Courtin-Clarins Sisters

After reading the large spread on these sisters in the newest Vogue, I would be lying if I did not say I have a style crush on these two. At first glance I thought, I could never pull off the wild outfits that these two seem to look flawless in. And while I still would have a hard time with the tie-dye leggings and neon green heels, I thought I would try to put a spin on these outfits for the every day girl. With Fall soon approaching I have noticed that there are absolutely zero rules this season. White? Sure. Pastel? Why not. Color? LOTS of it. In the past it seems like the stores have tried to keep us in muted and dark colors when the weather turned cold, but now it is another story and I love it. I am going to try to keep this a regular thing on the blog taking high fashion and spinning into an affordable, similar look. Every now and again I may even try and find some pieces in my own closet that would work, while my efforts to complete the 30 for 30 were weak (I know, I know...) I still would like to try and figure out new ways to wear my clothes so I do not get so bored with them so quickly!

SO introducing the newest style icons... I hope you love them as much as I do :) xo.

Look of the Week : Jetsetter.

On Thursday, Stone and I are headed to Chicago to shoot a wedding! We are thrilled about this trip for many reasons. First off, I have never been to Chicago and we scheduled out an extra day just for sightseeing, any suggestions of what to do? Also, we are working with Carter & Cook for this wedding and so we know it is going to be incredible, these girls are the best wedding planners and have incredible taste. Lastly, I hear Chicago has really great pizza and I am kind of a connoisseur...

Anyway, I thought that I might throw together a fun travel outfit for this week. I always wear flats because I don't like my toes getting cold on the plane, or I wear boots because they won't fit in my suitcase! I still like to dress nice for traveling, I know some people like to throw on their comfiest sweats and call it a day, but you never know who you might meet on a plane and I need to be ready just in case it is Gwyn (or maybe a future client/boss)! I always wear a looser shirt so I don't feel more constricted than I already am in my seat. Other than that, I have purchased two movies on my iPad and pretty much just rotate them out... Baby Mama and Troop Beverly Hills :) Both are highly recommended!

Look of the Week : Oh, Gwyn!

Gwyn has always been my girl. While most of my friends' favorite actresses are Angie or Jen (or somewhere in between) I have remained faithful to Gwyn. And she has only gotten better and better. With her blog GOOP it is so easy to love someone with a great taste in clothes, traveling and food! Plus, who did not love her in Emma? I mean really...

Anyway, she just posted her top outfits for Spring/Summer and has me buying lotto tickets hoping to be able to afford at least one of these outfits. Truthfully you can find similar looking items at stores such as H&M or Forever 21. While they are not going to last as long, they will help you keep up with the trend of the season :)

For more of her post, go here! Enjoy.

Weekend wrap up : May gray.

Good morning!

When we moved out here to California, everyone warned us about the months of May and June. California is supposed to be sunny and 70 all the time, right? Well, there is this little saying here 'May Gray and June Gloom'. Sounds like fun right? It's true, ever since we got back from Colorado, while there are spots of sunshine here and there, it has mostly been completely overcast. The bad news for me is that I am quickly losing any sign of color I had from all of my glorious beach days. The good news is that the light outside when the clouds are hovering is perfection for a photographer. Yes, yes, we do not get the beautiful golden hour, which we also love to shoot in. But, the foggy grey makes for pretty romantic looking photos I think.

Stone and I had such a fun engagement shoot this weekend! It is such a great surprise when a couple hops in front of our camera and is totally natural and comfortable. Plus they came armed with jokes, which is always a positive!

Location scouting for these shoots is always a bit tricky, but Stone has found Google Earth to be quite helpful! That is how we found the location for our shoot this past weekend... we saw open space with a bit of green, a bit of texture and of course the ocean and we thought, perfect! Below are some photos Stone snapped while we were checking out the place beforehand.

Pretty epic (that word is borrowed from husband's vocabulary). Cannot wait to share the photos with you all. Until then, have a great start to your week! xo.

Look of the Week : Thinking about it.

One of my favorite style bloggers Kendi, has proposed a 30 for 30 challenge to those in the blog world now for 4 seasons and she is proposing a new outlook on the challenge for this summer. There really are no rules, just simply pick 30 items from your closet and put together 30 outfits from those items throughout the summer. It is just a way to reinvent the things in your closet and look at them perhaps in a different way. Could be fun....

I am considering doing it, and I think you should too! Go here for the info!

Look of the Week : The maxi.

This season is all about the lightweight, flowy sundresses!

This is great news for us gals. Such an easy look to throw together and if you have not shaved your legs in a while, don't fret because the maxi is back in full force this season and I am loving it. Throw on a sun hat, strappy sandals and a long beaded necklace and you are good to go! Truthfully at the moment I have zero maxi's in my closet, but this will quickly change (a little bird told me I was getting a couple shopping gift cards for my birthday!). Wooohooo! Hope you find this look inspiring. xo.

Look of the Week : Blog inspired.

Have you noticed the incredible amount of bloggers that are posting photos of themselves each day and talking about what they wore. At first, I have to say, I was completely turned off by this. I thought it just seemed crazy vain (I still think some of them are crazy vain), but I secretly have begun to love a small handful of these blogs and have been finding tons of inspiration from their outfits! It is kind of like the girls of the world got together and decided to be super trendy and post photos of themselves as they are doing it. And, while I was somehow not included on the guest list at that meeting I have definitely benefited from their bright idea.

So, here are my favorites of these style blogs... Atlantic-Pacific, What I Wore and Kendi.

Top (It's called the SHELBY so I had to blog it!!) : Anthropologie
Cardigan : Tory Burch
Bangles : Forever 21
Bag : Ellington
Sandals : Madewell

Outfit INSPIRED by this Kendi post!

Look of the Week(end) : Going to the chapel.

So whether you are the bride to be, or you are trying to find room on your already crammed fridge for yet another wedding invitation... either way wedding season is in full bloom! With the upcoming royal wedding it seems to be the talk across the globe... what to wear? While, I don't necessarily suggest these dresses for Kate Middleton's wedding (I so wish we wore fancy hats to weddings in America), I do think that they are some great options for those less royal weddings in our datebook. Or if you are the bride (congratulations!) you are probably in the market for shower and rehearsal dresses and you have come to the right spot. Throughout this season I will be collaging dresses here and there as I see them, and today from the looks of it I was in a pink/sparkly mood!

Now for the real question... who of you will be waking up in the middle of the night (CNN 4AM ET Friday) to watch the royal nuptials on TV? I sooo wish I could... and I would if only I had cable...

To catch up on all of Kate and Will's happenings go here, to see past royal wedding gowns go here, and to plan your trip to London to join in on the festivities go here!

As if you were reading a book....

Look of the Week : DC living.

One thing Stone and I noticed immediately when we got to DC was the large amount of suit-clad girls and guys about our age walking around town. We seriously overheard conversations of 20-somethings saying "Oh, I want to introduce you to my colleagues from the White House" and "So I said to the guy... Don't you know I went to Princeton". Not that we have been living under a rock or anything, but this is not normal clothing or conversation for Boulder and Encinitas. I love it, the idea of wearing a suit, living in a Brownstone house, and working at the White House... I mean, I probably would love it for like a week and then be over it. But, it is fun to envision that lifestyle anyway :) So this week I put together a little DC outfit for the ladies, because most of the all-black suits I saw walking around could use some spicing up.

Glasses : Warby Parker
Scarf : Hermes
Dress : Miu Miu
Bangles : Kate Spade
Watch : Nixon
Laptop Case : Kate Spade
Heels : Tory Burch

* Obviously I was on a DC business woman salary for this outfit too :)

Look of the Week : Rainy day.

Hello and happy Monday!

Sorry for the lack of 'Weekend Wrap Up' this week. All in all, we had a fantastic weekend eating here, drinking here and seeing this movie! I recommend all three :)

Because we are have found ourselves in the middle of April already (time is flying) I thought I would share a good rainy day look with you all. Also, I just love a classic Burberry trench (on my wardrobe bucket list) and wanted to find a way to make a look out of it! California has already had some torrential rains this season... nothing, of course, compared to the rains in Texas. When I was little I would beg my mom to take me to the mall whenever there was a tornado warning for our area. Partly because I was convinced that our mall was so sturdy that no tornado could carry it away, and partly because the mall will cheer anyone up on a gloomy day, right?

Hope you enjoy! xo.

Look of the Week : Beach day.

Well it is starting to warm up in this part of the world... and not just in California... I know for a fact that people are pulling their bathing suits out from storage in many states :)

I have now become a beach-goer. Which, is new for me. I used to not like it because of the smell of seaweed, dirty seagulls trying to steal from me, and coming home with sand stuck to me... falling in my car and house. I know, I know... such a negative Nancy. But, I have changed! I now am so fully prepared when i go to the beach and I love it so much! There are definitely some essentials to have, so I thought I would share them with you just in case you ever want to come visit me out on the West Coast. Hope you enjoy!

Sun hat : JCrew
Cover up : Calypso
Swimsuit : Anthropologie
Bag : Nixon
Sunscreen : Kiehl's
Beach game : Smashball

Look of the week : Yard game chic.

One of our favorite things to do in the Springtime is get together with friends, cook out, and play yard games. I was introduced to Bocce ball just a couple of years ago and have to say that I have some pretty impressive skills :) Have you ever played? I think this is the perfect outfit for this kind of day, I find myself reaching for button up shirts lately as a alternative to just a cotton t-shirt and I think the look is a bit more grown up. I hope you enjoy, and if you have never played yard games you should plan a party this April with friends and try them out, it is bound to be a success! xo.
